The #1 Mistake Home Buyers Make

Mr Gutter Blog Graphic 2While cutting costs on upgrades and other miscellaneous things can be great for staying within budget  when moving into a new or used home, one thing you should not try to cut corners on is your home inspection. Whether you’re moving into a sparkling new home or a fixer-upper, getting an inspection should be top priority. Inspections can reveal things you might not have been anticipating on spending your savings on, like a new roof,  electrical wiring, or bad plumbing, which could end up costing you a fortune. According to Bill Loden, President of the American Society of Home Inspectors, 10 percent of newly bought homes did not receive an inspection, something that many experts claim is a huge mistake. The average inspection costs around $450 and usually takes 2 to 4 hours. These 2 to 4 hours are used to check for defective issues within the home which can be flagged and then you can decide if the home is worth investing on depending on the severity of the problem. Making the small investment of only $450 to have peace of mind equates to more money in your pocket down the road.  Imagine discovering expensive problems after you sign the dotted line. That is a headache that can be avoided buy hiring professionals.

The Trick to Cleaning with NO Chemicals

Mr Gutter Blog Graphic 6
The next time you run out of Lysol or your favorite kitchen cleaning product look in your fridge and grab a few lemons. Lemons are great for cleaning because they are high in citric acid and have 0 chemicals. They can be used in a number of different ways and aren’t harmful to your health!

Brighten your laundry
Squeeze a cup of lemon juice into a cup and pour it into your wash cycle of light clothing. The citric acid in the lemons will help to brighten your clothes

Counter Tops
Mix 1:1 water and lemon and wipe your counters down. They’ll sparkle and smell fresh, just make sure to spot check first!

Got tough buildup in your microwave? Pour half a cup of water into a bowl and then squeeze lemon juice into the water and microwave for 3 minutes. After the microwave stops, let the water sit for 5 minutes so that it can cool down. After the water has cooled down, take a wash cloth with lemon juice on it and wipe down the inside of the microwave. You’ll never clean your microwave another way again.

Vegetable Water

Next time you boil vegetables on the stove top, save the water instead of pouring it down the drain. The water contains important nutrients that can benefit your plants. Now there’s even more of a reason to eat your veggies!

Don’t trash the bouquet of roses from your bad date! After flowers have wilted, cut the stems and stick them into potatoes so they can absorb the water needed to grow their roots! You’ll have a beautiful rose bush in no time.

Soda Bottles
Recycling old soda bottles is great for the environment, but you can also use your plastic soda bottles in the garden too! Simply puncture holes around the perimeter of the bottle and plant them next to your plants and flowers. The holes will make it easier for water and rain to reach the root of the plants so they can grow to their full potential.
